Spark Me Up!
If you start me up I'll never stop
After a couple of good rides on my new Scott Spark I can honestly say that this bike has been more than worth the wait. Scott has come up with the Spark design new for '07 and this bike is simply amazing. Right out of the box the bike is light, actually very light for a full suspension XC rig with 110mm of travel in the rear. My bike weighs in a just over 23lbs now and will come down to about 22lb with a new fork and some other bits. The spec is full XTR with solid but light extras around the bike.
On the trail the first thing that hit me was how amazing the rear end was ...I could fully lock it out for the smooth climbs and then had the choice to either use the "Traction Mode" setting which is half the travel or switch my little handlebar remote thingy to the full travel setting. I climbed up some gnarly stuff with this bike and as long as I had the legs the bike kept on gripping. Secondly, when I pointed the bike downhill in the full travel mode the bike was so plush and smooth, the 110mm travel in the rear gave the bike an all mountain feel but still with nice sharp XC handling in the tight stuff. The Nude TC shock from DT Swiss is fantastic....very light and adjustable but with a sweet plush feeling without any bottom out! I think that this bike could spell the end of the hardtail for most people and could easy be someone's do it all race bike that is fun to ride on the weekends. For me this will be my Trans Rockies bike for this year and I have a feeling it's going to rock as long as I have the legs!
These Spark's are few and far between around here so if anyone out there wants to check it out feelfree to drop by and ask me about it. If you're thinking about a new bike for '08 get an order in on one of these machines NOW .......Scott has just set the bar a lot higher now with a 22lb carbon full suspension bike with 110mm of travel! the competition is honestly playing catch-up to the Spark!
