Who put the "K" in Kamloops?

I had the pleasure of riding some rad XC with former Kamloopian Marty "Kobra" Korba and longtime local dude Chuck "Captain Obvious" Brennan of KBC fame. We rode the local epics of Dufferin and Shep's trail built by former MTB pro Chris Sheppard. Amazing riding here....Shep's was so hard! No wonder the guy slayed on the descents....this was his trail that he practised on. Typical hot, dry and dusty conditions.

Next up was Silver Star......big jumps, berms, bigger jumps, bigger berms, wall ride, bigger wall ride.......you get the idea! I met up with my TransRockies partner Hazen and some of his Canmore crew that were oon a big BC ski hill trip. So much fun here....no wonder everyone is raving about this place!

Kelly's Race Report

TransRockies '07

The dust has settled on another TransRockies and all that were a part of it were treated to some fast racing, hot and dry weather along with beautiful scenery. The north to south route from Panorama to Fernie proved to be very challenging although there was a bit too much gravel road each day. I raced the Open Men’s category and came 8th place overall with my new partner Hazen Simson from Canmore. Having such a fast and easy going partner was great, I had lot’s of laughs during the week when I wasn’t about to barf from the pace Hazen wanted to push! I had the pleasure of having my SCOTT SPARK to race and it totally rocked! Having such a light bike with the ability to use all 110mm of rear travel when I needed it then instantly switch my remote handlebar lever to the Traction mode and have half the travel for technical climbs was a total advantage. I could also fully lock out the rear end and make it firm as my Scale hardtail. The Spark is the best full suspension bike for a race like this in my opinion….anyone interested should drop by the shop and check mine out anytime. If you’re  keen on one get your money down this fall cause they are going to be in high demand. A lot of the racers were also talking about another 7 –day Stage Race that will take place in July 2008 in and around Kamloops BC called the Intermontaine Challenge. This race will have about 40,000 feet of climbing and a lot more singletrack than the TR which is what us mountain bikers love. Another cool part of it is that you can race it as part of a two person team or as a solo! Check the Tourism Kamloops website for the details. Registration opens in November. Next up for me is hopefully the LaRuta in Costa Rica!

Ciao
