Kelly & Diana's Excellent Adventure at The Kamloops Bike Camp

At the crack of dawn we set out to take part in 3 days and 2 nights at the Quaaout Lodge, where we were treated to extreme downhill riding, delicious food, camaraderie and entertainment by Chuck Brennan and The Kamloops Bike Camp. After a long drive, interrupted by some heavy duty road construction, we arrived just in time for the 1st shuttle heading up to "Elementary School", an introductory trail to get your "feet wet". Although, for most people this was an excellent warm up run, being a beginner to the sport I quickly learned the most efficient ways to crash. Let this be a lesson to the youngsters out there, armor and full face helmets do save lives!!

The lush forests of the area were home to several wild animals including a black bear, that we met up with on a few occasions, not to mention our instructors that were also rippin it up on the trails. Namely Devon who fulfilled our wildest airtime fantasies when he hit the 30 foot road gap featured in ROAM. After getting warmed up, the team headed up to "Bull-Moose" for something a little more gnarly. After finishing our first day of riding, we reconvened on the patio of the Lodge for drinks and eats to discuss who schooled who. Since Kelly shared the most stories and seemed to speak the loudest, he took the title of "DH-Champion", for Day 1 anyway. Other trails that we hit up; "Old school", "Bambi", and "the Ridge"...

The trails offered everything from North Shore style woodwork, huge jumps and road gaps, to classic steep technical single track. Some of which has been featured on the recent ROAM DVD by the Collective. The BC soil was full of traction at every turn and berm. We also had the opportunity to check out the sweet trials and dirt jump park directly across from the lodge, and learned about a 50km up and coming cross-country trail near by. The camp truly offers a variety of riding trails for all levels and abilities and is conveniently located next to little Shuswap Lake. The lake certainly was cold, but worth the swim at 3am to get rid of any aches and pains we had acquired from our 2 days of intense riding. They also have an unbelievably helpful and patient staff that were willing to give us one on one riding tips, it was MOST appreciated! Thanks again Karly!!

The entire experience was remarkably enjoyable, from the surrounding scenery, to the incredible riding. No freeride trip would be complete without stopping in at The Kamloops Bike Camp, whether you are just driving by or planning a week long stay it is well worth your time.
