Basic Maintenance

$150 Plus GST  

The Basic Maintenance Course is perfect for cyclists who want to learn the essential skills of bicycle care and upkeep. Led by our team of experienced mechanics, this course will guide you through the fundamentals of maintaining your bike for optimal performance and longevity. Key topics include:

  • Gear and Brake Adjustments: Learn how to fine-tune your shifting and braking systems for smooth, efficient operation.
  • Flat Tire Repair: Master the process of fixing flats quickly and confidently while out on the road or trail.
  • Tool Usage: Get familiar with essential tools like torque wrenches, tire levers, and multi-tools, and understand when and how to use them.
  • Maintenance Tips: Pick up invaluable tips and tricks that every cyclist should know for keeping their bike in top shape.

The course includes hands-on practice, with bicycles provided for all participants to work on during the session.

Course Details:

  • Location: Bow Cycle & Sports (Main Store)
  • Schedule: Classes are offered on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
  • Class Size: Minimum of 2 participants, maximum of 6 for a personalized learning experience. If the minimum is not met, participants will be notified of cancellation 48 hours prior to the class.

This course is an excellent way to build your confidence and skills, ensuring you’re always ready for your next ride!

Disc Brake Maintenance

Disc Brake Maintenance Course Overview:

This comprehensive course covers essential disc brake maintenance and care, ensuring optimal performance and longevity for your braking system. Participants will gain hands-on experience in the following areas:

  • Disc Brake Pad Removal and Decontamination: Learn how to safely remove pads and decontaminate them to restore braking efficiency.
  • Rotor Decontamination and Cleaning: Proper techniques for cleaning rotors to maintain smooth braking action.
  • Piston Cleaning and Lubrication: Understand how to clean and lubricate pistons to ensure they move freely and evenly.
  • Pad Installation: Step-by-step guidance on correctly installing new brake pads.
  • Resetting Pistons: Techniques for resetting pistons after pad installation for consistent brake performance.
  • Caliper Alignment: Master the process of aligning calipers to avoid brake rub and ensure even pad wear.
  • Rotor Truing: Learn how to straighten a warped rotor to ensure smooth, wobble-free braking.
  • Bedding-in Rotors and Pads: Best practices for bedding in new rotors and pads to maximize braking efficiency.

Additionally, the course includes a Brake Bleeding Demonstration covering both Shimano and SRAM systems, providing insight into maintaining hydraulic brake systems for consistent and reliable braking.

  • We provide the bicycles for this course. 
  • This course is taught on Saturday afternoons at our main store location, it requires a minimum of two participants and a maximum of 6. 
  • We will cancel the course with 48 hours notice if the minimum number is not met.
